Match Colors to the Material and Production Process
Color results depend on the selected keychain material, surface condition and application method. The same Pantone reference may appear slightly different on soft PVC, printed acrylic, painted metal or leather because each material reflects and absorbs color differently.
For custom projects, buyers should provide a Pantone number whenever accurate brand-color matching is required. Physical color samples or previously approved products can also be used as references. Screen colors alone are not reliable because monitors, lighting and file settings may change how a color appears.

Color Options for Different Keychain Materials
Soft PVC and rubber keychains can use multiple molded colors with raised or recessed areas. Clear separation between color sections is important, particularly for small designs or fine artwork. Very thin lines may need to be adjusted before mold development.
Acrylic keychains commonly use printed graphics, transparent areas, solid backgrounds or layered visual effects. The artwork resolution, white ink layer and printing sequence can affect color density and clarity.
Metal keychains may use enamel filling, painted details, printed colors or plated surfaces, depending on the design. Leather and PU leather products can use material colors combined with printed, embossed or foil-stamped branding where suitable.
Metal Plating and Surface Finish Options
The finish of a metal keychain influences its appearance, texture, corrosion resistance and perceived product level. Common directions include polished silver, matte silver, gold tone, antique finishes, black finishes and other project-specific effects.
Polishing is normally used to remove visible roughness and prepare the surface for plating or further finishing. Highly polished surfaces reflect more light but may also make scratches or uneven areas easier to notice. Matte and antique finishes can reduce reflection and create a more subdued appearance.

Approve Color and Finish Before Bulk Production
For custom keychain orders, we recommend confirming the color and surface finish through a sample before mass production. Custom samples normally require around 7–15 days, depending on the material, tooling, color count and design complexity.
The buyer should check the sample under normal lighting and confirm:
- Main product color and secondary colors
- Pantone references where required
- Plating tone and surface gloss
- Color separation and edge cleanliness
- Front and back appearance
- Logo color, position and clarity
- Consistency with packaging or brand requirements
The approved sample and written specification are then used as the reference for bulk production. Changes requested after approval may affect the production schedule, tooling or unit cost.
Color and Finish Inspection During Production
Color control is not limited to the approved sample. During production, color placement, surface condition and logo appearance should be checked against the confirmed requirements.
For molded PVC or rubber products, inspection focuses on incorrect colors, overflow, contamination and incomplete filling. For printed acrylic products, checks include print alignment, color density, scratches and protective film condition. Metal products are checked for plating consistency, polishing marks, uneven surfaces and visible defects.
