Select the Right Material for the Intended Use
Material selection affects the appearance, weight, durability, branding method, tooling cost and final unit price of a keychain. Arvexin Keychain supports metal, soft PVC, rubber, acrylic, leather and other suitable materials for promotional programs, branded merchandise, wholesale supply and private label orders.
Metal keychains are suitable when buyers require a solid feel, engraved details, plated finishes or a more premium presentation. Soft PVC and rubber are commonly selected for colorful molded shapes and flexible promotional designs. Acrylic works well for printed graphics, transparent effects and lightweight merchandise. Leather and PU leather are suitable for embossed logos, stitched constructions and gift-oriented programs.
Before recommending a material, we review the artwork, intended use, target appearance, quantity, budget and required branding method. Buyers who are still comparing options can begin with our Custom Keychain Solutions overview.
Confirm Dimensions and Product Structure
Keychain size should be confirmed according to the shape, artwork detail, logo visibility, product weight and packaging method. A design that is too small may lose fine lines or printed details, while an oversized design may become heavy or inconvenient for everyday use.
The specification should clearly show the overall length, width and thickness of the main keychain body. It should also identify the position of holes, rings, chains, connectors and other attachments. For double-sided, layered or rotating designs, front, side and back views may be required.
We can review dimensioned drawings, artwork files, reference images or physical samples. If the buyer only has a concept, basic dimensions and construction details should be confirmed before mold development or sampling.
Develop 2D, 3D and Custom Shapes
Different materials require different approaches to shape development. Flat acrylic keychains usually follow a printed or cut outline. Soft PVC, rubber and die-cast metal products can support molded 2D or 3D details when the design and thickness allow. Leather keychains may use cut panels, stitching, folded structures or combined metal accessories.
For molded products, relief height, recessed areas, edge thickness and color separation must be reviewed before tooling. Complex shapes, deep relief or multiple assembled components can increase mold cost, sample time and production lead time.
When a new mold is required, tooling begins only after the drawing, dimensions and structure are confirmed. More information about this stage is available on our Mold & Tooling Development page.
Approve Materials and Sizes Through Sampling
A custom sample is used to confirm the actual material, dimensions, thickness, weight, shape and attachment arrangement before bulk production. Standard custom samples normally require around 7–15 days, depending on the material, tooling and design complexity.
During sample review, buyers should check more than the general appearance. Important points include overall dimensions, edge quality, material feel, logo clarity, color placement, ring position and the fit of assembled parts. Any requested changes should be recorded clearly before approval.
The approved sample and written specification become the production reference. This reduces the risk of dimensional differences or structural misunderstandings during a bulk order.
How Material and Size Affect MOQ and Cost
Standard custom orders generally start from around 500–1,000 pieces per design. Complex molds, special structures or private label programs may require approximately 1,000–3,000 pieces. The exact MOQ depends on the material, manufacturing process, tooling requirement and order configuration.
Quotation is influenced by material type, product dimensions, thickness, number of colors, mold complexity, surface treatment, attachments and packaging. Larger dimensions normally increase material consumption and packing volume, while detailed 3D structures may require more complex tooling and processing.
Information Required for a Material and Size Quote
For an accurate evaluation, send us:
- Artwork, a dimensioned drawing, reference image or physical sample
- Preferred material or the intended product appearance
- Required length, width and thickness
- 2D, 3D, single-sided or double-sided structure
- Order quantity for each design
- Preferred key ring, chain or attachment
- Logo, color, finish and packaging requirements
- Destination country and required delivery schedule
Available attachment choices can be reviewed on the Key Rings & Accessories page. After the material, dimensions and construction are confirmed, we can evaluate feasibility, MOQ, tooling, sample cost and the expected production lead time.
